Fancy Creek - Zip Code: 66554
Description:
This trail is definitely the best west of Perry Lake all the way to
Colorado. It is one of the best and most unique in Kansas. The current
mileage is in the neighborhood of 5.5 miles after the added sections are
finished. It used to be 4.5 or so until this summer when a group of
people working with the State Park and the Manhattan Midwest Mountain Bike Patrol started building and maintaining the trail regularly. The
trail is an intermediate to advanced trail. There are a few sections that
very few riders, even the most experienced, can clean. The work that has
been most recently done to the trail has not only added mileage, but also
added sections that beginners will find challenging, but ridable. This is
a trial for everybody. The topography and the plant life of this area are
very unique to the area. The trail is very rocky on the upper sections
with mostly cedar trees. If you have ridden in Colorado you will be
reminded of it on this trail. The lower sections are mostly deciduous
trees and grass with many small creek crossings. While ridding this trail
you will pass through rocky coniferous forests, ridge running trails,
grassland, deciduous forests, and back again. There are many flowing
sections separated with technical parts and many switchbacks. Many areas offer
great views of the surrounding hills, plains, and Tuttle Creek Lake. This
is a trail that will have you coming back again and again. Enjoy the
ride.

Manhattan River Trails: Zip code: 66502
Description:
This trail runs by the river, hence the name; it branches off of the
linear trail that circles the town of Manhattan, KS. If you have ridden
the river trails in Lawrence these are comparable. It is very fast and
flowing. Distance is currently 2 miles one way, on your way back you will
ride 4 miles. There have been many freeride stunts, jumps, ladders built
along the trail. These do not interfere with the trail as you can ride
the entire trail without riding any of them. This is a good trail for
speed work, technical training (on the stunts), and a good trail for
beginners. It makes for a very fun quick trail close to town. Be careful,
though, there are many blind corners on the trail where a fast rider can
run head-on into a walker, runner, or another rider. Wear your helmet and
as always, enjoy the ride.
Directions:
You can access the linear trails at many different areas. The entrance
into the single-track river trails is right next to the Hwy. 24 Bridge. The
other end is near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Blvd and Hwy. 24.
